Ask The Expert: With a Prestige, Is There a New HD Camera You Would Recommend?
QUESTION: I own a Casablanca Prestige with the latest Smart Edit OS version, and am happy with the unit. I am wondering whether to upgrade from my present SONY DCR-HC1000 camcorder to any of the newer HD camcorders, such as the HDR-XR150, on up to the XR550V, or any other SONY HD camera you might recommend. What are your thoughts/suggestions Chet?
ANSWER: The Casablanca Prestige will not work too well (if at all) with HDV video. Some cameras allow you to down-convert from the camera into SD, so that you could videotape in HDV and then use the camera and convert the output signal to SD (Standard Definition) which then would be fully compatible in your Prestige. To stay with your Prestige, I would recommend a camera that allows this down-conversion option (output SD via Firewire).
